Discovering Glogster

Glogster is an interactive poster program that allows teachers to get one step further into creativity when they make posters.  Teachers can log onto Glogster and for no charge create a poster design that has the option of including videos, photos, drawings, words, data, sound, and so much more.  Glogster is educational, offers a diversity of tools, and gives teachers the opportunity to encourage their students using visual aid.

Glogster.edu is designed and operates for the use of teachers.  It is open to the public, but caters to the needs of teachers.  This make it easier for teachers to navigate around the site because it focuses on the components teachers are looking for when creating an education visual aid for their students.
Glogster.com is designed for public use.  Where you can "Poster Yourself".

This is a great tool if the teacher is presenting new information to his or her students because the students will be actively engaged.  The variety of things that can be layered onto the glogster inspire for creative learning. For example, the teacher can have photos displayed a while he or she discusses them and then can click on a video to show a clip without having to go to another window.  Another positive thing about Glogster is the option for students to create their own.  Even though this program is designed for teachers, Glogster is a great way for students to assess what they have learned about a topic by making a fun poster.  One fo the weaknesses I found about Glogster is the fact that it doesn't foster very much depth.  Teachers have to stay on the surface with information. And another weakness is it is a lot of information on a small piece of paper.  The students may get distracted by all of the colors, images, and information in one place.

Students could use Glogster in a Social Studies classroom if they are learning about about Civil War, for example, they could design an interactive poster taht highlights both sides to the Civil War.  The video option would be great for history lessons.  For a geography lesson, the teacher could use Glogster to indtroduce a new part of the world to students.  All of the colors and options of tools would engage students and make them interested in the new region being introduced.  For an Economics lesson plan, a teacher could use Glogster to as a suppliment to a lesson.  For example, if the lesson is on the decision-making process, the teacher could make a couple Glogsters for each decision being considered.

There aren't took many issues revolving around Glogster.  It is safe, effective, and interactive!
